If you are 13-17 and live in Northumberland, you’re up for a challenge and would like to make some new mates, Fire Cadets could be for you! Cadets meet up weekly for drill nights(during term time) at Community Fire Stations around the County, typically between 6pm and 8pm.
Fire Cadets is available at these fire stations:

-
Alnwick
-
Berwick
-
Hexham
-
Pegswood
-
West Hartford

As a cadet you will learn some of the skills needed to be a firefighter, including:

-
How to use fire hoses
-
How to climb ladders
-
Learn about road traffic collisions
-
Learn about search and rescue techniques

You will also learn leadership and team working skills and you can work your way up the ranks just like our firefighters do. You will use the same equipment that our fire fighters use – including fire hose and ladders, and you will be provided with your own set of protective clothing. Your instructors work as fire fighters for Northumberland Fire and Rescue, they carry out the same drills that you will learn and they know how to keep you safe. All Cadet sessions are also supported by volunteers, many of whom have been Cadets themselves.
Some of our former Fire Cadets have also gone on to become fire fighters themselves or have other jobs within Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.
